I used to buy a product called "Wheel Wax" directlly from the manufacturer. I read about the product in AutoWeek and had good results with it.I was recently surprised to learn it is now available over the counter at one place in Buffalo - Towne Mini.With this product rubbed onto the wheel  brake dust does not adhere as stubbornly to the wheel and you are able to clean the wheel easier without using an expensive and harsh spray on wheel cleaner.As the wheel wax (it is actually not wax but rather a polymer I believe) builds up only water and a rag are needed for wheel cleaning. It seems to work best with wheels that are not of intricate design.I have used the wax on both polished aluminum and painted wheels.For other finishes you're on your own!Happy cleaning
