I'v used the free reports. They seem to tell you valuable information. Such as when I was buying my used 2005 I knew it was in a front end accident. When I asked at Towne what it was they said something about sheet metal flying off a truck and it messing up the hood but not engine or structural damage. Didn't change my decision but I would not have known otherwise.
ive used it alot! I love it and its worth every penny. especially if something you didnt know happened to the vehicle did in fact happen. i was about to buy a car with total front and rear damage that was fixed poorly and didnt know till i saw the carfax.

If you're buying from a dealership, most good ones will print one out for you free of charge (that was my experience when we were looking for my (used) truck a few years back)
