7th Annual MINI Road Rally

Welcome back all you MINI owners:

As many of you already know 2009 marks the 50th anniversary of the introduction of the Mini Cooper.  The Mini Cooper was born in 1959 and being a one half century old MINI Club of WNY would like to celebrate by presenting it's 7th annual MINI Road Rally honoring the 50th birthday of the Mini Cooper.

The tentative date for our rally this year is June 13.  As in previous years the annual road rally is held in the month of June and on a Saturday morning.  This year will be no different except for the fact that this will be a special one due to the birthday.

The workings are in process so please keep checking this post for further details on the rally.  All you will need to participate in the rally is a MINI, of course, driver, navigator, and possibly a full tank of gas. (Maybe only a half of tank!).  So mark your calendar for June 13 and a birthday bash for the Mini Cooper.

Have every intention of attending the rally this year especially after missing the rally last year, the only one we have missed.  June 13th is a good date for the Bennetts.
The weekend before we will be Wyoming.

After our dismal performance in the 5th rally,  we will start navigator training early.

This is special event. This is the 50th anniversary of the Mini Cooper. A "once in a lifetime event". Once it is gone it is gone for good. Never to return. The Model "T" Ford had it's 100th birthday last year. 1000 Model T's attended the big birthday bash in Indiana and many who didn't attend were sorry they missed it.

I'd have to concur. I went to the Ford Centennial celebration a few years back with my '88 Mustang GT (man I miss that car disbelief), and the memories I have from it will last a lifetime.
I have to check the calendar to see what's going on. At this point, I guess I would be a tentative pencil-in for yes.

Would love love to do this. I did not have my mini last year so this would be my first. Hope I can make it.

The rally is still in the making. If you plan on attending you need to frequently check the forum for information and updates.  The rally is always held on Sat. morning and registration starts at 8am.  The place where the rally will be held varies from year to year.  It depends on the location of the actual rally.  Since this is a special one celebrating the 50th birthday of the Mini Cooper the rally will be starting from Towne MINI.  Towne MINI has been very helpful with our rallies in the past.  They have  always sponsored our rallies, providing us with food, entertainment, prizes, the works.  The cost of participating in the rally will be the same as in previous years.  It is $15.00 if you pre-register and $20.00 at the door.  MINI Club of WNY will inform everyone when open registration begins.

As we said before, this is a special, "once in a lifetime" event, therefore there will be  3 trophies instead of the usual 1.  The trophies will denote 1st place, 2nd place, and 3rd place.  Along with the trophies are prizes for the winners.  A special  effort is going into making the trophies and they will be  different from the previous years.  We are sure you will like them.  (I wish I was in the rally!).  Every participant will receive a dash plaque and other goodies.

Every rally in the past has been a success and everyone for the most part has had loads of fun.  We  hope that we will have a tremendous turnout for the celebration of the 50th birthday of the Mini Cooper.  LET'S MOTOR!!!

With all our usual weasel-boxes, it's on the calendar. I remember last year I hadn't even ordered my MINI yet but wanted to go check 'em all out. It poured like the dickens that day (at least here) and my sister was in town so we didn't make it. Hopefully the stars will line up this time--it sounds like great fun. Many thanks to the organizers, to you dedestaud, and to Towne MINI!

We're interested in this.  Although we're unsure what exactly happens we've been assured that it's fun so we're going to make every effort to attend.

We are new Mini owners & are going to Watkins Glen next weekend. If it ends up being as much fun as they are saying, this rally should be fun as well. I have always wanted to participate in a road rally. Now that we have a rally worthy car.....lets go for it.

I can only speak for last year, but it was a "puzzle" solving rally, with mileage and turns to tell you where to go. You had to figure out different things and write them down as you saw them.

It is a BLAST! And even if you get a bit lost confuse or otherwise don't win, you will still have a lot of fun and meet a bunch of other MINI drivers, so it is all good.

See you there!

To all those who plan on attending our 7th annual MINI Road Rally/50th birthday of Classic Mini,

Open registration will begin on May 1st. If you plan on attending and would like to pre-register for this event please send a check for $15.00 to:

Diane Stauder
410 High St.
Lockport, N.Y. 14094

Please write rally on it. Pre-registration is non-refundable. If you would prefer to register at time of event it will be $20.00 at the door.

Along with the 1st place, 2nd place, and 3rd place trophies there will be prizes for these winners also.

To anyone who has never done a rally please don't be scared. You will be able to do it with no previous experience. Like they say, there is always a first time for everything. If you can read a "Map Quest" you will be able to do a rally. Remember it is NOT a race. No speeding (though we have seen it!) You will need 2 people to participate in the rally. One driver and one navigator. There may not be extra workers to help with anyone that was unable to get a partner.

We hope for a great turnout at our 7th Annual MINI Road Rally and let's all celebrate the 50th birthday of the Mini. LET'S MOTOR.

To All MINI Owners,

Our 7th Annual MINI Road Rally planning is in full gear.  It will be a special event to honor the 50th birthday of the Classic Mini.  Here is some info: on this occasion,

Registration will begin @ 8am on Sat. June 13 @ Towne MINI.
The first 25 MINIs will receive a packet with goodies and Mini treats for your adventurous journey.
The rally will include 3 winners, 1st place, 2nd place, and 3rd place.  Even if you feel that you did not do well you should still try to make it back because lunch will be provided for all the participants courtesy of Towne MINI.  We  will have, of course, birthday cake for our lovely MINI.
There will be door prizes and for the MINI who comes in last, well there is always a treat for them.  Just for giving it that old "college try".
Everyone will get a dash plaque and a chance to win the "big one".

MINI Club of WNY would like to take this time to thank Dan Ives and everyone  @ Towne MINI for their generous support for our rallies.  We could not have done it without them in the past and will continue to work with Towne MINI in the future.
All monies collected  for the rally are returned in the making of the rally and anything that is left goes to charity.

So get there early to be one of the first 25 MINIs.  Driving school will begin @ 9am and the first MINI will leave @ 10am.  Each MINI will be a minute apart.  The rally will take  about 2 hours to complete which should bring us to lunch @ Towne.

Hope to see you on June 13  for our 7th (WOW, can't believe it's our 7th!) annual MINI Road Rally and the "once-in-a-lifetime" celebration of the 50th birthday of the Mini.
LET'S MOTOR!!!!

To answer the above question, the format is slightly different but it will keep everyone on their toes.  Also we would like to add that WIVB is being contacted to get a little TV coverage for our 50th birthday celebration.  So ladies, don't forget your lipstick!!!

Once again, we will be there to go head to head with the Bagpiper!  And we know who always comes out on top, don't we??  Look forward to renewing old friendships.  I am now mostly recovered from the wreck, and eager to get back into the swing of things.  Bill and Barb aka "Cogman" biggrin
