i have a 2003 mini cooper, and at 55kmiles the vulcanized rubber on the vibration damper has been attacked by a slow oil leak from the crankshaft seal. Anyone else experience this problem at all or heard any causes for it?

I think this is a known issue on the R50 R52 and R53's. I also think it is very easy to replace it if I recall correctly.
