1st bath

I gave Dante her first bath today (532miles).  My day was pretty good until I found 3 chips in the paint already.  I was more than a little pissed.  2 are really small but the other is kind of big.  Not even two weeks old.  The thing is i've been diving her normal.  Break-in period and all.  I thought the finish would hold up better.  I'm a very disappointed.

Wouldn't be a bad idea to try to fill those in before winter driving. The problem I've had with with regular touch up paint is that it's difficult to blend into the existing paint and you can see the touched up area when it dries.  I've recently tried a different product that worked well.  The way it works is that you put a blob of paint (not the touchup paint you buy at MINI, but paint you buy from the company) onto the chipped area and then immediately smear it to smooth it out. Let it dry for a few minutes then use the provided buffing solution to clean the smeared paint off of the non-damaged area, leaving the chip filled in.

We took a 4500 mile trip to New Mexico and North Carolina last August and got a few small chips, but using the stuff I mentioned it's now pretty difficult to see where they were.  I discovered this product (Dr. Color Chip ) via an advertisement in Roundel magazine. Web page is http://drcolorchip.com/ .  Just be sure to follow the directions and you should get good results.  Good luck.

Thanks Pamlico, I think I'll give this product a try.  I hope it doesn't take too long to get here.  Probably not to many nice days left in the season.

The stuff that I used does work well. It took about a week for it to arrive after ordering. The kit I purchased contained a bottle of touch up paint (be sure to provide the color code when ordering), the solution to remove the smeared paint, a small double ended brush, and a rubber glove. Our car is white and the painted chips are barely noticeable but I think I read that this works even better on darker colors.

I have had one minor chip since I have had my MINI. The detail department (specifically Andre) at Towne took care of it for me during my yearly polish and wax.
