Very Upsetting News

I have very upsetting news my 7 year old Golden Retriever died yesterday morning.  I have done nothing but cry I loved him so much as did my whole family.  This was very unexpected.  He got sick on Saturday and I took him to the vet and he was there when he died.  He got into a weed plant called Night Shade very deadly!!!!!  I know there are alot of dog lovers on this site.  He started having seizures then vomiting.  We buried him lastnight in our backyard.  His name was Elliott a very loyal and loving companion.  My son slept with Elliott's collar lastnight which broke my heart, it just hurts too darn much.

Marla,

I am so sorry to hear of your loss. I can deeply sympathize and though there's not much (if anything) I can say to make you feel better, know that my thoughts are with you and your family.

Sincerely,
Kim

Kim,

Thank you so much. I can't seem to stop crying my son broke down this morning and of course lastnight (I kept him home from school) my husband took the day off and he has cried. Elliott was a very special part of our family and he will never be forgotten. My son wants another Golden Retriever so we will be getting another one. I am just in shock that this happened. The vet was surprised also he said yesterday morning Elliott took them for a 10 minute walk and when he came back in he went into his crate and curled up and died all within 20 seconds. I just wish I had the chance to give him a hug and a kiss goodbye. My good friend that I spent the day with yesterday is coming up tomorrow and we are taking care of the Night Shade plant.

Marla,

I am so sorry for your loss. Our thoughts are with you and your family. Hopefully you'll find some small amount of comfort in the reports that he seems to have gone peacefully.

We'll be thinking of you.

Marla,

So sorry for your family loss. It is very hard - we do know. We went through it with one of our Dalmatians a few years ago. She passed in our arms at 4am at 8 years. Ended up having her laid to rest at Rush pet cemetery with full funeral. All we can say is keep him in your hearts and remember the joys that you all were blessed with having known him.
God bless,
Scott & Maureen

How devistating! I'm so sorry for your loss. Our pets are definitely family members for sure. My boss was upset that one of my coworkers took a week off when her cat died, and I warned him that I was going to need at LEAST a week when the day comes that my kitty passes. Hugs and kisses to your family!

I'm sorry for your loss.  It saddens me to know that you had to go through this.  Your family and Elliott will be in my thoughts.

Thank you so much for all that are praying and thinking of my family at this sad time. I can honestly say yesterday was one of the most awful days for me and my family. We did alot of crying and remembering of all the cute things that Elliott did. My son and I made a cross for Elliott's grave. We decided today was going to be a better day and that we would try our best not to be sad because Elliott wouldn't want us to be. He was always a happy dog with a smile on his face, and that is the way I want to remember him. I just wish it didn't hurt so darn bad. I feel like my heart has been ripped out. I sometimes blame my self for his death but my husband said Marla you wouldn't hurt Elliott no matter what. We didn't know that plant/weed was there until it was too late. Our friends are coming over today and we are digging up the rest and our new puppy will not be allowed back in that area. Yes I said new puppy he will be ready to come home on October 16th (A belated birthday present for me) and he will be a male Golden Retriever and his name will be Georgie. What do you think of the name? We went round and round with names nothing clicked but this one did and it was the same way when I picked out Elliott.

Marla - God Bless! We are thinking of you. Our Cats & Dog are family too & we love them all so very much. Try to keep in mind all the special times you had with Elliott - he's over the rainbow bridge now.  You will see him again some day. Take care! Sue, Scott, Otis, Ben, Olllie, & Addie

rbowx.gifRainbow Bridge rbowx.gif

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Sue,

Thank you so much I am still finding it so hard to believe that my Elliott is gone. I went to my cousins tonight but my heart isn't into doing anything right now. I am looking forward to the new puppy but no one can take the place of my dear Elliott. He was truly a wonderful part of our family. My husband said that he didn't have a mean bone in his body he always had a smile on his face.

My favorite dog died 9 years ago this week, so I won't lie to you and say that you'll forget. My brother sent me a book that really helped a lot, called 'Dog Heaven' by Cynthia Rylant. http://www.amazon.com/Dog-Heaven-Cynthia-Rylant/dp/0590417010

I feel like my heart has been ripped out. There are times I blame myself if only I knew that darn plant/weed was back there. My husband told me not to blame myself he knows I would have never hurt Elliott he was like my own child and a beloved family member to all of us. My husband lastnight said gosh I miss Elliott so much. It just hurts. I pulled all the plants out today and took care of them but our new puppy will not be allowed back there.

I am very sorry to learn of your loss.  We have had four Shelties.  Our second Sheltie, Cammie after Cam Neely of the Bruins, mysteriously died in 1995 at the age of five.  I was the only one home for a week.  Rest of the family was in Boston.  Noticed Cammie was not acting herself and made an appointment with the vet for a three or four days later.  Came home one day from work before the appointmet and found Cammie in extreme distress.  Called the vet, threw off my tie, wrapped Cammie in a towel, and went to vet.  Cammie died early the next morning.  Never really knew what the cause was.  Although it has been several years ago, I will occasionally think of Cammie feel a certain saddness.  She was certainly an important member of our family.

It's always so sad to lose a pet, it's like losing family. I see a lot of good and bad volunteering at Lollypop Farm, and sometimes I'd like to just load up my car with all the critters & take 'em home! It's really wonderful to see happy people leave with a new pet though!

I am so sorry for your loss. My wife and have had pets since we met and have lost 2. It is like losing a child. WE currently have a 13 yerar old Lab that we have had since he was 6 weeks. I know its going to break our hearts when he leaves us. Hope you feel better and remember the bridge.

Thanks to everyone for caring. It has been a rough and okay week. Today it has been one week since he passed away. I received a sympathy card from the vet and it had a golden retriever on the front and the started the tears flowing again. I went down to the nursing home to see my mom and I told her she cried she loved Elliott too the thing is everybody that knew him loved him, he made an animal lover out of my husband the neighbors up and down our road loved him. In three more weeks I get my new golden I can't wait I need a puppy in this house it is not the same without one. We are naming our new golden Jorge it is pronounced Georgie. I need to get toys and collars and leashes. I told my husband that wherever we go Jorge goes.
