BOOT STRIPES

Hi, I am a new member and a new owner of a 2008 Cooper S. I have bonnet stripes from the factory and would like to find out some info on having boot stripes installed.  Any info would be be greatly appreciated (eg. where to order the boot stripes from, detail installers in the Buffalo/Rochester area, cost, etc) (Attached is a picture from a company in AZ that installs alot of boot stripes) Thanx for any info! smile.gif

Hi - I installed a set of rear stripes myself. Actually if you take your time it's a pretty simple job. In order to get around the rear 'Cooper S' badge being in the way you can remove it as the letters are simply stuck onto the lid using foam tape. Use some dental floss to cut through the tape and then it's easy to clean up any residual. The company where I purchased the stripes included a replacement set of letters, although I didn't install them as I like the debadged look.

I can't get an individual image from Picasa to post, but if you click here you'll be taken to a set of images some of which show the rear stripes.

It's been a couple of years since I installed them but I'll try to find the name of the company when I get home this evening.

- dl

I don't have boot stripes... yet... but I got my bonnet stripes from Aesthetic Creations. Mark (SPDinNY) has boot stripes and he did them himself. He also found a local place that did his bonnet stripes for a very reasonable price and they came out really well. I'm sure he'll chime in with the specific info.

Welcome to the group!

Looking at the Aesthetic Creations web site I believe those are the guys I used. The stripes are constructed of a very durable material and have held up quite well for almost 3 years - no fading, peeling off the surface, etc.

Again, an easy job to do yourself. Front stripes are different due to the complex shape of the MINI's hood. Those are better left to someone with experience.

Thanx again-The company in Arizona is Aesthetic Creations. It makes it alot easier to order from an out of town company if you know others that have bought from them and have not had any problems. Have a great weekend! Also, a quick question--does anyone know how long it will say "newbie" under my name or how it changes to member or motorist? eyepopping.gif

You'll achieve "member" status with your 5th post, Motorists have 100+ posts and Cathy, Mark and Venno are the only Motorer's, so far...

the stripes you want are very simple. I know a local place who will print them on high quality 3M vinyl and put them on for you. I imagine it would be about 50-75 for them to print and install them.

sun.gif    Thank you for such a quick reply. If you can send me their name and phone number I will give them a call. I also received an email from Aesthetic Creations stating they also have boot stripes to match but I'm still waiting to hear from Towne MINI about having them installed by them. This forum is fantastic--everyone is very helpful and friendly! Every MINI owner I have met is wonderful giggle.gif

Is it an auto detailing business or a graphic sign business?? I've been trying to look up different businesses in the yellow pages (near buffalo Rd). Towne MINI said they would install the boot stripes if I purchase them from another company so I may buy from Aesthetic Creations and just bring them to Towne. If you remember the name, please post it. Thank you for any info and Have a great HOT weekend!!smile

One possible advantage of using Aesthetic Creations is that provide (at least they used to) replacement "Cooper S" letters for the rear deck with the stripes. The install job is several orders of magnitude easier if you remove the original lettering (see my posting above).

I'm sure Towne would be able to provide replacement letters as well, but you'd have to pay dealer pricing (be sure to tell the parts dept. you're a member of this group and they should give a discount).

Not an issue of you decide to leave the rear deck bare.

Thank you for the info on the Cooper S replacement letters . AC now charges $35.00 for them, I will ask Mark at Towne for their price before I order it from AC. It's also great they give this group a discount--I will definitely mention it to Mark at Towne.

I still haven't had the chance to swing by to get the name. They are a graphics shop (They do advertising wraps for cars, businesses, busses, magnetic signs etc.) And they install them right there. There shop is directly across the parking lot from New Era Performance. The address for New Era is
1322 Buffalo Road
Rochester, NY 14624

The address may be a little hard to find as the businesses are behind a building. There is a bar (some baseball bar) right near the entrance to the businesses.

Thank you for the info, I think I'll take a drive down with my MINI and check it out. If they don't work out, I plan on ordering the stripes from Aesthetic Creations and will have Towne put them on. My husband thinks he might be able to install them but I'm not sure if I want to take that chance!

Not to take money away from Towne, but installing the stripes really isn't a difficult job if you read the instructions and work slowly. Aside from pinstipe tape I had never installed something like this, but they go on pretty easliy.  Be sure to work in a clean area where dust particles aren't being blown around that would get stuck under the stripe.

clap.gif      I found the sign place!! It's name is Affordable Sign Center Corp. (ASC Graphics) at 1356 Buffalo Rd. I spoke with the owner and he was very helpful--he also remembers "some other people" from a MINI group using him to apply stripes! I will be in contact with him again and hopefully I will have my boot stripes soon. Thank you again for all your help and stay cool with all this summer heat.  smile.gif

w00t.gif  My Boot Stripes were installed today by ASC Graphics--they did a great job! The only problem was that when they removed the Cooper S boot badge (with dental floss) the adhesive came off and their standard double sided tape was too thick to reapply the letters. Any suggestions on reapplying the badge--is there such a thing as super thin double sided tape or should I probably just order a replacement Cooper S badge from Towne? Has anyone else run into this dilemma before? Thank you for any ideas or suggestions.smile

3m does make a double sided sticky tape that is thin. Check at Home depot or perhaps a hobby shop. Mind pm'ing me as to how much they charged? Oh and please put up some pics! I love supporting local shops.
