The wife and I are getting some spiffy new sway bars and are looking for a local installer (within 150 miles) instead of driving to Pennsylvania or Michigan. Any recommendations? Mine is an R52 hers is an R56.
its easy to do yourself...I did mine with a friend and found it to be fairly easy..... since winnie is convertable its a little more challenging, but not by much....Its just loosing a few bolts jiggle and pry the bar out through the side and then reverse...so what bar you getting?

I'd recommend getting some advanced driving classes if your going to do that so you know how to handle seeing the back of your MINI in front of you. I took one in NH with the White Mountin BMW chapter when they were doing a MINI ADSS and had a great time, Its also a prereq for the performance driving school. I had such a great time that I'm planning on brining my gf to their next MINI ADSS So do you work..or do you hover around the forum waiting for someone to post?? (I get out of work at 11 AM your time since its a 6 hour time dif, so this is I'm home and have no life outside of MINIs time)

I work at a pc with dual monitors, I surf alll day long and chat on AIM. The sway I am getting weighs about 5lbs and acts like a 21mm sway. With my convertible having a bit of flex it shouldnt be dangerous since I have autocrossed a few times. I will set it on the light setting.
ahh! Right! Thank you! It was less than a hundred..i think something like 40 including lunch?? (not including the required tech inspection within the previous 3 months -since you don't want your tire flying off)

Laurie's car Smileee is a S with the sport suspension and the bar is wonderful. My car is a Cooper (non S) cabrio and has the stock suspension in it.
Bars are set on the center position and that works well.
The biggest difference is the car with the stock bar feels like the pivot point is at the wheels. With the 25mm bar the car feels like it pivots at your hips.
When the bar is set at the highest setting the pivot point appears to move to the center of the car.
In effect the higher the setting the less understeer the car has.
For that don't know for safety reasons all production cars have understeer built into them. Understeer is when you have to keep turning the wheel into the direction you are turning.
The less understeer you have the more twitchy the car can become.
I have noticed this in the cabrio with the stock non s bar in the front and the 25mm bar on the highest setting in the back.
When I ran the cabrio at the Batavia autocross this last summer the car was quite neutral feeling. However I decided to set the car at the middle setting because I was sharing the ride with my step son and I didn't want to have it do something he wasn't used to
Sounds like the middle setting is best for myself. I have already had the rear end come around on me in wet conditions but it was controllable. My S Cabrio has the sports suspension on it already and I am use to avoiding potholes. I will get the parts and give you a ring soon Jack. Thanks for all your help!
