How Long Does it usually Take?

I just noticed on the MINIusa website that my newly ordered MSC is "waiting for transport". Anyone know how long it takes after that status is attained? I really thoutht that it would be a whole lot longer in the "production" stage, so I was surprised to see that it was already done.

I put in the order for my Mini 12/14/02, it was built the week of 1/17/03, it arrived in NJ 1/31/03 (on the Carmen), and I picked it up 2/11/03. I'm not sure if the transport times have changed much, but there can be some variability in how long it takes to be put on a ship, and the time it takes to be processed at the vehicle distribution center. Then they're trucked by land to Buffalo, though I suspect that's the fastest part.

Now is a good time to do all the things you won't get around to once the Mini gets here & you'll want to be driving all the time. biggrin.gif

Sorry, I don't remember how long transit took.

I imagine MINI has got the custom order thing down pat. Motor Trend reports that more than half the MINI owners custom order their MINIs. That's probably why your MINI was made so quickly, they've got alot of custom order experience. Also every custom ordered MINI is an all ready planned "dealer lot" MINI. All they have to do is change the specs on the production line and your car is done. Mila was supposed to be a British Racing Green Cooper with a white top.

Well, it was only "waiting for transport" for about three days and now the website says its on it's way. Anyone have any recollections as to how long the journey across the pond took for yours?

BMW/MINI is using a new method for transport these days:

Depending upon if the ship needs to stop at other ports before NJ, it generaly takes 7 to 10 days is my recollection.

You can (used to be able to at least) find the name of the RORO ship your car is on and then, depending upon the equipment on the ship, track it's progress on the open seas.

I can't recall all the details but check here at MINI2.com and you should be able to get some more information.
