To Checker or Not to Checker

Hi Everyone:

I'm a new member to this forum and I'm about to put an order in for my first MINI. I've got my list together (a Cooper-S) and I'm having second thoughts about what probably should be the easiest decision. Would appreciate your thoughts.

I'm pretty well sold on getting a red one with black stripes on the bonnet and a black roof (with a moon roof). I was thinking of setting it off with a black & white checkered roof decal and checkered side mirror covers - until I was talking with my 27 y/o daughter this afternoon. She remarked that my motorcycle (a1700 cc midlife crisis gift to myself a couple of years ago) could be a nice reflection of my "wild" side, while the checkered roof could represent my "dorky" side.

Ouch! Now, she's a young, NYC actress so I'm thinking she must know something about "cool". But here I was thinking that this checkered theme would look cool. So, one of us must be wrong. What do you think? Anyone in the club here have any checkers in their color scheme working?

Thanks for your help here. Hopefully, I'll get to meet some of you after my purchase - with or without the checkers.

I think all the checkered Minis I've seen look cool, but then again, I might be a dork too! biggrin.gif I don't think you'd regret it, though.

I think that the checkers are cool, but I'm an accountant, and a dork by default (I buy colorful staples for my stapler too). But over time, I have embraced my dorkiness, and just don't care what others think. I blast terrible music with the roof down on my MINI convertible, and sing along, get strange looks, and laugh my a$$ off!

I have co-workers who have those nice red staplers. I'm not even sure the person who bought them from the office supplies catalog knew they were famous!

Brewmeister: Does that mean that you have painted stripes (i.e., not decals)? Where is the Tiermini dealership, anyway? I don't believe that I've heard of it. I'm trying to decide between the Buffalo and the Manhattan dealership. Didn't know there was a third option.

Tiermini is our local club not a dealership.

I have the 2006 Checkmate configuration which was not offered as a package in 2007 as far as I know.  You can see some pictures of the car on the TIERMINI gallery section of the site.

I used Keeler MINI in Albany, so understand your interest in finding the closest dealer.  I am happy to say I have not had to go back to the dealer for ANY issues,in fact my first return trip was for our first year checkup.

I personally only like the white roof, but the checkers on the roof and the mirror caps would be great.  Very cool! I think most of the dorks agree.  Dorks know what's cool; they just don't do it.

Wait, that's not true.  I know and like a lot of people in our club I would consider dorks, whom I  will refuse to namewink, and they have done some very cool stuff with their cars.

Don't trust anyone under 30.biggrin
