Longest Day of Motoring

Yesterday (7/21) was the "Longest Day of Motoring"
The "Longest Day of Motoring" occurs on the first day of summer. This is the day we enjoy the most daylight all year.

As things worked out this year I was attending to some family business in northern Pennsylvania.
To celebrate the longest day I spent part of it driving the back roads around my Grandmother's farm.

This is what Windy looked like in the morning.

Cheers,
Jack

They really like all yellow cars. My first Mustang was Zinc Yellow (Liquid Yellow's kissing cousin) and I was CONSTANTLY cleaning the front of that thing. Bugs and Tar were the worst. Makes me wonder why I chose another yellow car. biggrin

I always say there are 2 seasons in Western NY, bugs and salt. The good news is, yellow doesn't show the salt as much. And sometimes, the bugs are still alive.

Today I found something worse than bugs on a bumper.

I reached up to use the sun visor and placed my hand in a nice fresh splat of bird poop.

That's what I get for parking with the top down.

Cheers,
Jack

This is the third time that I have checked out this site. Not really sure how to use it but any way, I just bought myself my 1st mini and iam just thrilled I live in amsterdam NY and I have heard different thing on how the mini is in the snow. Was looking for some more input on this from people who own minis

Get a set of 4 snow tires and the MINI is great in snow. Only issue is depth - the car is quite low so it doesn't take all that much to be a little snowplow.

If you have performance tires on the car you're going to have trouble as they will not grip and you'll be all over the place. 'All season' tires are a compromise and may be OK in light snow, but overall you'll be much more secure with a set of real snow tires.

You might consider having the snow tires mounted on a second set of wheels (black steel wheels are the least expensive). Come the right time of year all you'll need to do is switch the wheel / tire combo and off you go. Tire rack (www.tirerack.com) sells snow tire / wheel packages for the MINI. A couple of days after ordering you receive a stack of tires on your doorstep. If you're not certain of what to get, the Tire Rack guys are very helpful over the phone in helping you choose the right tires.

I've had my Mini since 2003, and it's been great in the snow, with 15" wheels, first with all seasons and now have a set of snow tires mounted on wheels, so I have them changed over for winter. Congrats on your Mini!

I've had a MINI since 03, started wiht a cooper and now an 06 S....GREAT in the snow....as long as you have snow tires....pamilco is right 100% if you have performance tires you don't stand a chance....I have a friend who's selling snow tires...used one season, on alloy rims, not sure what he wants, but PM me and I'll send you more info (he sold his MINI)

Thanks man, You guys are awesome. You gave me just the info I was looking for.
I know one thing for sure and that is that I have never loved a car as much as I love my mini. What a great thing to have so many other enthusiests out there who love there minis too. I think Iam going to check out the www.tirerack.com website for 4 winter tires.
Now I have to go cruise some more. I'll be checking back. thanks again.

By the way, if you choose not to get your rims and tires mounted by tire rack.... I found out that Walmart has GREAT prices for mounting and balancing... I got my new rims and tires mounted for something like $43 Total... Dunn wanted to charge 35 for each tire

If you decide to have your tires mounted / balanced by a dealer and have runflats, be certain they know how to deal with those types of tires.

Actually I kept my RF on them, when i head down the Manhattan/Jersey and my sister borrows the car, i switch them out....I'd never hear the end if she got a flat even though i got 3 flares and 2 different types of tire repair kits along with a pump in the back...actually when she borrows the car i must remove the airscoop and my MOT badge....she doesn't like it and since she owns half the car...i gotta compromise...atleast i can keep the Czech roof flag and the CZ sticker on the back..
