This year's Finger Lakes Mini Run will be Sunday, August 19th. We'll meet in Geneva NY (for anyone coming from the north side of Watkins Glen) and then drive to Watkins Glen International Racetrack for paced laps.
Meet at Geneva Wegmans Sunday, 8/19/07 @ 0900
(NOTE- change of start point from the previous years start at the outlet mall- Wegmans actually wants us to come!)
I was thinking about the Fingerlakes in Auburn. I've thought about doing this the past few years but haven't gotten there yet. If not during this event, maybe sometime this summer.

LOL I dont think that they would force people to wath the italian job, and I dont think they would do a triple feature during this time if the season. But you can try!
Whatever "force people to watch the italian job!" it's a fun movie!
As long as it's not Wild Hogs I'll be happy

I would be intersted in doing a few laps at Watkins Glen just to say I been on the track. But first I would like just a bit of clarification. The plan is to meet at 9:00am at Wegman's in Geneva (do we get a gift basket for the fee P.R. Wegman's wil get out of this?), the track time isn't until noon, so that leaves us with 3 hours to make our way from Geneva to the Watkins Glen. A normal drive from Geneva to Watkins Glen takes 45 minutes or so. Are we having lunch before the track time or are we doing a ramble through the countryside before the track time and lunch afterwards? If we are doing lunch after the track time, we may be looking at lunch dish siting in a car for 4-5 hours. Not a good thing for potato salad on a hot day. I would just like a little clarification on schedule of events planned for the 7/19.
If you're coming from the south, it makes more sense for the folks close to Watkins Glen to meet us at the racetrack around 11:15. We usually meet up at the ticket office parking lot (the 3rd left coming up County Road 16). The Geneva meet was to help out people coming from the Thruway who aren't familiar with the area. We do take a slightly more scenic route down rather than the straight shot down Route 14, and we usually spend some time hanging out in the parking lot, and leave around 10 AM.
We've met at the Prime Outlet Mall in previous years, and the State police had 3 cars there at one point. I think Wegmans might appreciate the crowd more, if anyone wants to get coffee or something to eat for breakfast, and they've got clean bathrooms.
The lunch will be after the track laps, and if there's a general consensus to do it again we'll do a drive around the old village Grand Prix course.
Hello, I have a question. I was sharing with a friend that we intended on participating in this event, and he asked whether they allow convertibles on the race track. I hadn't really thought about it, but now that the question has been raised, I would like to know the answer...will they allow the convertible on the track?

I'm kinda thinking that I'd like to go! Is there a fee to get into the track if you're not planning on doing the timed laps? Taking the laps sounds like more fun than birthdays & christmas put together - but I know I am not comfortable enough with stick yet to do them and Mark will be working that day.

Hi, everyone. Even though I drive a 2005 mini (liquid yellow with checkerboard top,) I'm a new MINI club member. Found out about it through a friend of a friend. I've read about the ride to Watkins Glen on 8/19, & would like to attend with my husband. This time I'll be doing the driving as he has his own race car that is driven at Lancaster! We were just wondering what to expect...how many attended last year's run?
It's usually about 15-20 cars, though if all goes well (weather and scheduling) we might have a few more. It's pretty low key- we meet up to head down to Watkins Glen (or meet there), drive on the track ($25 for 3 paced laps), then we may drive around the town, and head to Nichole's house (near the racetrack) for a picnic lunch (we bring sandwich stuff, and ask folks to bring a dish to pass).
