New Members!

Hey Everyone:

I picked up my new MINI Cooper S on Saturday. It's red with black top and mirrors (I decided to forego the checkers and put the money into xenon headlights - figuring that I can always add the checkers later, if I decide to). It's a fantasic ride and I'm having a lot of fun with it. Thank you all for the advice I received regarding all my previously posted questions. My salesperson was Ray and he was great - a consumate nice guy and very thorough on the orientation.

Speaking of the features of this near-motorcycle vehicle, I felt very geriatric when I saw that the radio came with only brochure-type documentation/directions. It took me more time than I'd like to admit to, in figuring out how to set the buttons (but the ipod interface was easier).

Looking forward to meeting you all at some future MINI event. Thanks again for your help and encouragement!

Jim

Congrats on receiving delivery on your new MINI. You should post a picture (don't ask me how to do that, though!).

Thanks. Right, I'll have to post a photo, but (in spite of my xenon headlights) I'm a bit in the dark as to how to do that. Anyone have any suggestions?

Hello Everyone,
I just got my new MINI last week and I'm having a blast! I am looking forward to meeting other MINI owners around WNY and doing some rallys and maybe some cruises.

Thanks yellowmininy,
I like the color too but I really didn't have much choice. I have been looking at MINI's for about a year now but with the price of gas, they are flying off the lot and mine was the last stick shift Towne had in stock. But what a great car! I sold my 1965 Mustang convertible because I just had to have one. I have only owned it for about two weeks and I have over 2,000 miles on it!!!

Hi Too Tall,

Congrats on your new Mini! I live in Webster (suburb of Roch.) My Mini is a 2006 convertible stick in purple haze with a green top. I LOVE it! But I haven't driven mine as much as you have.

Hope to meet you sometime. We used to have meets at Abbott's in Roch. Because I work a seasonal job, I'm real busy in the summertime, so I've only been able to go to one of them. YellowMini is the coordinator extraordinaire. Maybe she'll plan another one soon, now that the weather (hopefully) has decided to warm up for good.

Congrats again. (I remember the thrill when I got mine. I was ecstatic.)

Best,

Allison

We hit 1,400 miles on my cooper yesterday I totally love my vehicle. His name is ZIGGY and he needs a bath. We were in Buffalo yesterday saw Greg at Towne and plan on hopefully getting some more accessories next year. We live in Olean where there are not many MINIS. We hope to be at the Rally in June.

Using my wife Maureen's screen name. It's her car but I am the active one. My name is Scott. We picked up a 2008 Cooper S - Mellow yellow checkerboard glass roof, mirrors, Black bonnet and boot stripes and Mini's rally lights. She traded in her Chrysler 300M at Towne Mini. Looks like they had the best month there yet. Over 50 Minis sold. We had a Jeep Wrangler all decked out with no where to go. It was fun while it lasted. Hope to go places with this vehicle. She is an RN and I am a Rochester Firefighter. I think I might drive this car a bit (with her permision) since my Dodge 2500 with Hemi only gets 9.8mpg. Hmmmm I wounder if I could but the Hemi in the Mini....sorry...mind wondering. Looking to attend the Rally on the 28th.

Scott

MJB,

What he say about the lights? I'll tell you this. On 90 on the way back turned on the high beams and then the rally lights...OMG I had to turn them off, refelection of the sun like light from the signs...WOW!
I think I saw you there. Funny as it was while we were waiting to take delivery of the car I kept a good eye on it. After all it was on the showroom floor. Kept thinking to myself (posting guard for my wife...people can look but please don't touch yet)...lol
She came home from work this morning and said "today was a curve-corner day"). And she thinks I drive hard.

My MINI is on the Independence II as we speak. I am hoping to have it by the end of June.

My hubby drives a Charger with a hemi engine. We just made a trek of about 1000 miles round trip....had to fill up 3 times. We used the cruise most of the way. He is thinking he will be driving the MINI during the summer since I am home and it will get better gas mileage....I guess I will permit him to drive. Perhaps I should make him pass a test of some kind before I hand over the fob!

It will not be much longer now.  You must be so excitedsmile  I wasn't able to sleep the night before I picked up my MINI.  He is sitting in the garage now it is almost time for me to go to work.  I washed and vacuumed the inside on Sunday so he is nice and clean.

On the rally lights: Seriously consider getting them in "black". They really look great, especially if you have any other black on the car (e.g. stripes or roof).

When I picked my MCS up last October, they had made a mistake and it came in with chrome rally lights. They were real nice about it and quickly ordered the black replacement version. Ray, my salesperson, was apologetic about the mistake and indicated that they hadn't ever had anyone request the black ones - so that's probably why the mistake was made. So, this was reportedly a "first" for the dealership. Whe they came in, he very much agreed that they looked terriffic with the other black on my car (top, grill, bonnet stripes, etc.). OK, he could have been just being polite - but I was happy to agree. To each his/her own, of course, but I sure like the look. So, if there's still time, consider black rally lights would be my advice.

I agree on the black rally rights. If you go back in my post you will see a link to the car pic. The light housings are black and have the black covers. Another thing to consider is chrome is harder to keep clean, it will dent from stones and get constant salt spray in the winter. The black high impact plastic in the front of the car will take more abuse and hold up better. Oh. and did someone mention it looks better with the black stripes...lol...

The coolest thing happened lastnight, pulled up at a red light and the person in the car next to me had her window down she kept looking at my car. Then she said I love your car, then when we went to the drugstore the person sitting in the next car told my husband how much they loved my car. I was driving of course. My husband drove to the drugstore I drove home. I never get sick of the compliments I receive on my MINI.

Very cool MJB! It's definitely one of the many perks of being a MINI owner.

One time we were out in Winnie with the top down and Cammie (our dog) in the back in her doggy seat, Mark went into a store to get something and the guy we parked next to was admiring the car and Cammie. When his wife got back to his car he said something like "That little dog must have a really great life, what a cool little car."

I had a similar experience. Brian and I were driving with the roof down on route 332 in Farmington, and we were stopped at a light. A guy in a taxi cab (with passengers) pulled up next to us, leans out his window, and said, "that's an awesome car! How much did that cost you, like $80 grand?" We told him how much it cost, and he was amazed.

Also, I had to get used to people beeping and waving all of the time at me. For the first couple of months, I thought that maybe a light was out (so I'd have to get out and check), or I would try and figure out if I knew the person who waved at me. The MINIs are definitely special cars.

Back in the day (2002) when MINIs were few and far between it was common to come back from shopping and find a small group gathered around the car. When parking I'd frequently get nabbed by someone who wanted to know what it was - " A mini -what?" was a common response when told it was a MINI. While driving there were countless doughy moon faces staring at the car as it passed, plus lots of kids waving, etc. Still draws attention , but as they become somewhat more of a common sight on the road some of the notoriety has faded.

Yes, I have been getting a lot of looks too but then I am 6'4" tall and many people smile when they see me emerge from my MINI. The main question these days seems to be "What kind of gas mileage do you get?" Duh!

I am happy to tell everyone that I just returned from Myrtle Beach, SC and I averaged 43.2 MPG at 69.7 MPH. It was a great trip!
