Hey! I'm a new memeber. I just adopted my 2005 BRG Mini Cooper S in November, but just got it out of storage and am ready for the road. Keep me posted on events, I'd love to hang with fellow mini drivers.

Welcome aboard! If you're looking for events, the 4th Annual rally is comming up quite soon, and there's always autocrossing, thru the Gennesse Valley BMW Club, http://www.gvc-bmwcca.org/.

As far as keeping up to date, the messageboard is the only way. There are sporadic e-mails, but by the time I get around to doing the next one, it might be too late...

I am looking at buying a Mimi Cooper but I don't know where I can get service. Would anyone know where in the Rochester area that you can get warranty service?

I live in Rochester, and for all the warranty work & service so far I've taken the car to Towne Mini in Buffalo, which is about 55 miles from me. I like to know that someone doing the work has worked on Minis before.

As more Minis get through the free service & warranty period, I think more places may have experience working on them. I have taken my car to Craig Autometrics (foreign car specialists) on Winthrop St (downtown off East Ave, next door to the Little Theater) for tire rotation and inspection, and if I get oil filters from the dealer might have them do oil changes. For most of the more major projects I'll keep going back to Towne. Hope this helps!

I'm also in Rochester. Since there are no MINI-authorized service centers here, I've used Towne for service. The routine service demands for the car are relatively low, with the actual intervals being directed by an indicator integrated into the odometer. Oil change intervals are relatively high, on the order of 10,000 miles (due to the use of synthetic oil), although I change the oil myself on a more frequent interval as well as having Towne perform the routine service work at the mandated intervals.

At this point in time, you'd need to use Towne (or another MINI dealer) for warranty work (but see below).

The local BMW dealer (Holtz) is not a MINI dealer and is definitely not interested in working on MINIs, plus their techs are not trained on the appropriate service procedures.

There has been a rumor floating around for some time that Towne may be opening a service center in the Rochester area, but to date it's still a rumor. Reportedly having sold over 200 MINIs to people living in the Rochester area, Towne would have an immediate customer base (not to mention BMW owners).

What did you think of Craig Autometrics? I was thinking about taking my Mini there for tire installation and rotation.

I'm also in Rochester and I take my Mini up to Towne. They do good work and they are pretty efficient with getting things done.

I'm in Rochester and I also take my car to Towne for all work. They are always great to me, I arrange for a loaner when I go then go to breakfast, do some shopping, etc. My salesman Ray usually gives me suggestions (and directions) on where to go - last time it was an artsy district near Rose Park! To me, that's worth the drive!

Don't get me started on Holtz, I could ramble on for hours about the excessively horrendous service I received EVERY time I went there with my 330ci and my 325xi. A brief sample: they overtorqued lug bolts on my 330ci and warped brand new rotors and pads in 1500 miles... I wouldn't trust them to rotate my floor mats!

Hello. I'm a fairly new Mini owner from the Rochester area (webster). I got my 2006 Mini convertible in April from Towne. Purple Haze with a green top. Am just getting around to searching on the web.

Anyway, I thought I wanted a Mini convertible when they were first announced. Then I spent a couple of years building mine on the website... I always ended up with purple haze with a green top. I'd never had much desire to drive all the way to Buffalo for a test drive. So when I visited my dad in Ft. Lauderdale in March, I went to the Mini dealer that was only about 2 blocks away from his place. I figured that I would test-drive one and hate it because it would be too small and too low to the ground because my other vehicle is a Toyota 4-Runner.

But that didn't happen.

Then I found out from the salesman in FTL that March was the last month that purple haze would be offered and it was mid-March. I had to fish or cut bait... or motor or cut bait... or fish or motor. Or just order and motor. Considered ordering in FLA, but then would have to fly down and drive back. So I called Buffalo the next day and ordered the Diddledot from Ray K. after spending a tumultuous, restless night weighing the pros and cons of spending that much money. I don't think the dealership was accustomed to phone orders, but it worked out -- except the sales manager made me put down a larger deposit because he didn't think that he could sell it if I backed out. (Who would back out on a color combination like that when they were crazy enough to order it in the first place?) Anyway, my redemption came when a lady came in off the street wanting to buy my car before I had had a chance to pick it up. Unfortunately, you can't get that color anymore.

I ordered my '04 MCS from Annmarie @ Towne over the phone - incl. the deposit. Of course, I'd been to the dealership several times to test and drive and drive some more. I'll roll over 49,000 smiles this weekend.

Some of you may be around on NEMINI.org and some may not, So I figure I should introduce us here. We just moved up to Rochester from downstate a week or two ago. So if you see TSCHEEZ (2002 DS/W) around, wave. My wife (Cindy aka MrsTscheez) and Josh (TscheezJr -- he'll probably want a account once he can type, well, talk too)

Oh, and if anyone knows of a good carwash let me know, my car is filthy. (stupid white wheels)

Jake,

Try to find a "touchless wash" , one where your car is not pulled along by the carwash itself. Some folks here have had trouble at places like DeltaSonic with the underside of their cars getting hurt.

Welcome, and if you enjoy your MINI half as much as I do mine, you're going to have a great time!

Haha, I never did this, can I do this retroactively?
We live in Rochester!
We= me and my hubby, Tscheez, and our son TscheezJr or BabyTscheez.
Lots of you know us from events like MOT. We've been in the Mini circle since 2002. However, we've only been "upstate" since July 2006. Before that, we were in the metro district. We bought from Westchester and dealt primarily with Prestige.

Crap... I see my husband beat me to it!  (garrr... I'm such a nerd)

New member here! My baby is an '06 Chili red Mini with checkered sunroof and mirrors. I always try to wave to my fellow Mini drivers peace.gif, so if you see an enthusiastic driver in Irondequoit (or out and about) - that's me!

I took delivery of the car almost a year ago. Was t-boned by a Blazer running a red light not 3 months later, and escaped with just an itsy bitsy scratch on my arm after playing bumper cars with the guardrail. The jostling busted my favorite bra, biggrin but all my bones were intact!  LOVE my Mini (it survived enough to not be totalled), and now it is our car of choice to shuttle the kids around in.

Motor on!

-Tara

Mrs, rcheez, always nice to hear from you as well as Jake, and Tara, that's a great story! I got hit by a dump truck last year, and I know what you mean about feeling safer in the Mini.

Hopefully it will warm up a little soon, and we can start planning some events, maybe involving the continuing tour of Abbotts. (Or Ted's, or Anderson's)

Congrats! The matching car idea sounds like fun. I've always thought that Pure Silver would look good with a white top!

Hey all!  I adopted my Cooper S in May of last year, chili pepper red with white bonnet stripes and a number 8 on the doors (my driving school souvenir from the Glen!).  I always wave if I see another MINI, so maybe I'll see some of you guys around!

I've attached a picture from a few weeks ago, when I was out in Iowa visiting a family who also had a red car with a number 8 on the side. biggrin  I'm the one about to "pick up" my car.

Picked up "Kassy" in late June.

She's been a blast, but I'm considering trading her in.

She's a beauty! What are you considering getting if you trade her in?

I probably won't be trading her in for at least another year, its more wishful thinking than anything else. I start back to college for my Masters and Doctorate in the spring, so finances wouldn't allow for a more expensive ride.

If I were seriously considering it, probably an S or a BMW 1 series. 50/50 weight distribution FTW! biggrin
