Watkins Glen International Opening Day 4/19/15

New update. WGI allows us to take our own cars out on the track, for 3 paced laps, for $25, which goes to charity. This is a lot of fun. There are no tickets.  Cash only at the gate.
The initial lap time has been set for 1pm. They would like us there for about 12:15, so there is no rush to sign the waivers.
For our Rochester area members, you will have 2 choices.

1: You can meetup with Rock City Mini at Mini of Rochester, at 9:00 for coffee & donuts.
2: Meet up with the Buffalo gang at the Canadaigua Wegmans on 5 & 20, who will show up about 10:35. We will then leave at 10:50.
From the Wegmans , we will take the twister roads less travelled.  On our way we will meet the WCC gang in Penn Yan, then all the clubs will stage at a parking area on Rte 14, near Randall Rd
For the Buffalo group.Towne Mini will have coffee & donuts for us as well, lets meet there at 7:45am or so. We will have to leave Towne no later then 8:30am.  I will lead us out Genesee St & zig, zag & Zug us down to Rt. 20 for the trip across to Wegmans.
Last year we had 39 or so MINI's, from WNY, RCM & WCC clubs, & only 2 of us came from Buffalo. We could have 9 clubs represented this year; WNY, RCM, WCC, LIONNY, North Country, TierMINI, Carlisle MINI, Philly MINI, and some of our friends from Canada, SOMC.

The Glen is still offering their buy 2, get one free.  $50 will get you 3 tickets to go out on the track 3 times.

Towne MINI and MINI of Rochester are now co-sponsoring the after party, right at the track.
This is important. The two dealerships need a head count to determine how much food to order, with a registration deadline of April 5th.

If you have a Facebook account, our your own clubs page, please RSVP there, with the number of people in your party.
A huge thank you to both dealerships. This will be a great event.

We now have over 200 people & 100 Minis registered.  April 11th

Robert, Carlisle MINI has posted this as an event for our club too.  I think there may be interest from Philly MINI as well.  Check our Meetup site for details.

We did this event in 2012 and I'm sure some of your member s were there as well.  Very low ceiling that weekend.

Yes, I remember. You were suppose to go out Saturday I think, but it was so bad, you waited till Sunday, & ended up going out with us.

This sounds like a great event. I just found out about the MiniClub of WNY so I'm very excited to get to meet some of the other Mini owners and see them out on the track. Do people go fast on the track? I just got a new lease so I'm still babying it. Also, do you have to pay if you don't want to drive the track?

Hi Linda. Welcome. To answer your questions, the official pace is 55 out on the track, but we pretty much just keep up with the pace cars.
That being said, the pace cars drive faster then 55. Some of us have been up to 80 on the straightaways.
If you come in with the club, we pay at a different spot, so you could just park in the lot. The venue for the after party will be available to us right away.
I'm sure there are other passengers, wives, that don't want to go out on the track, so I'm sure you wouldn't be the only one on the side lines, if you choose to do that.
Our Facebook page has more info. If you do go, I need to know how many, for catering purposes. Officially, the registration for the after party is closed, but there is a few extra tickets printed.
We are going to have over 100 Mini's there & over 200 people.

I have attached a travel packet for all to print out for the ride to The Glen.  General directions, timetable, map and other tid-bits for the ride.

Please note that the gate number has changed.  We are to enter at Gate #3

It is in PDF format.  Hope it's helpful!
