Yeah, I know the emissions are tough, & probably minimum safety & other requirements,
but if VW can do it????

Just hope its not some sort of behind the scenes pressure from entrenched US manufacturers trying to prevent super high MPG imports, to protect their asses.

I say super high, because they seem to have brainwashed the US into thinking that low to mid 30's is as high as you can get without expensive, highly sophisticated technologies & alternative fuels.

And yet, all the US car makers already have very high MPG diesel models in the EU.
Emissions are no longer an issue, now that the US has the same clean diesel fuel that the EU has had for years.

I have been on the Dodge UK web site. They have a diesel option in the Caliber, Avenger & Nitro, and they have a lower carbon footprint then the gasoline engines.

A Dodge dealer manager had once said to me that Dodge doesn't want to bring in the diesel engine because the engine is less expensive then the gas engines, they are afraid they will have a problem selling the gas engine models.
Don't know how true that is, but if it is, that way of thinking is probably why they are in so much trouble.
We can only hope that Fiat can knock some sense into Chrysler Exec's & help save a lot of jobs.
