Is it too early to talk MOT09?

I appear to have MINIfever. I love driving tedscar and I'm already loathing the day that things quiet down for the winter. I greatly enjoyed the gathering at Letchworth a couple weeks ago and am bumming we won't be able to make this weekend's outing to Belmont.

So, my mind (and my computer fingers) have started to wander a little and I've been lookin at posts everywhere about MOT (including the roles of QQJ & QQJ). I know a few of us mentioned the idea of going up when we met at Letchworth. Now, I'm getting really jazzed about actually doing it! In fact, Jill & I are clearing our schedules, lining up housesitters, and getting ted's bags packed for the trip (well, almost).

I know from reading past posts that there are many seasoned pros from the Club who have gone for years and I hope they'll share all their secrets and traditions with us newbies. Should we try for the best showing yet from WNY? What a blast it would be to get a slew of us traveling up there!

Anyone else thinking of going????

Or we could do Watkins Glen too. Cooooool seeya CJ

You're right; they both sound great! It's probably not realistic for us to do both in one year being so close together and all. Right now, I'm probably leaning toward MOT. I suspect Jill would prefer that one but I'll do a little looking into MOTD too (can't find a website, but I'll keep looking).

OK, I found it: http://www.minisonthedragon.info/MOTD2009.html

My hubby and I are tentatively planning to go to MOT because MOTD is a bad time of year for me. We would love to go, and have heard great things about it, but there are factors bigger than me in play, so we'll do MOT again. It looks like they've changed the hotel where they are centralized from, which should be fun. Maybe we'll even get some good weather this year!

VeganBrian, you must be out of your skin right now! Ten days is like a blink of the eye.

It's about 8-9 hours to New Hampshire's White Mountains. I think they're both fun. More driving events at the Dragon, MOT is a great charity event.

Well this may be blasphemy, driving the Dragon really does look like fun, but during one of the official events, it almost looks too crazy for me. I'd love to drive that road sometime. It almost looks more fun to me to do it during the 'off-season'. Maybe MOT is similar, but I think of the two, that's probably where we're headed in '09.

Venno, for now, I think MINI United is probably off my plate, but heck, it's early: who knows??

Dnr, keep us posted if you get something pulled together for 11/1; that could be fun and we might very well be interested in joining.

It's a shame there's so much going on this weekend. MINI of Pittsburgh has their Gyminikhana 2008 going on and of course GrammaCoop3 is hosting the get-together in Belmont NY. Seems like I saw another MINI event or two somewhere else not that too far away this weekend. Unfortunately, we have non-MINI company coming in and won't be able to do any of it. Curses!

Venno,

MINI United sounds like a lot of fun. If you go, you'll have to take plenty of pictures and let us all know how it went!

You live a fairy tale life and are a time travelling robot/not a real person.

If/when you drive the Nurburgring you had better make a video. That is all.

Who says things have to calm down during the winter. Many of us don't put our MINIs away during the winter. I would like to set something up at a place called the White Inn here in Fredonia, they have a free happy hour on fridays, which has some pizza wings and something veg. if I request is and other stuff. I also know the bartender and he is great.

If MINIs are so great in the snow I don't see why we can't do some fall/winter meets.

I think it would be great to do things in the winter, as long as those of us who put our "hangar queens" away to hibernate from the winter can show up with an alternative vehicle.

Today was a very good day! I had to take Pepper in to Towne MINI to have a few things checked out, and was provided with a MINI loaner (hard top), so it was great to be able to finally drive a hard top and see what that's all about. When Pepper was all ready, we got to drive her to Brian's parent's house with the roof down, which is always a treat in the fall time.

I got my compression glove yesterday for my burn, and it really seems to be helping (although I've only had it for a day now, the skin looks and feels a bit better). And the glove is pink! I never thought that I would be excited about something like that, but you've got to find small victories in every day.

We took a bike to B's parent's house, and we had to almost completely dismantle it to fit into the MINI. Both wheels, the pedals, and the seat had to come off in order to fit it in. I thought for sure that Brian wouldn't be able to make it fit, but he was determined. I gave my bike to his mom. Who needs a bike, anyway, when they have a MINI convertible? I'd rather be motoring!

Peppermini, great news on your hand!

I still want to go to a corn maze. (Maize maze?) Will have to see where they are.

The trick with winter things involving driving would be to have a phone contact list so everyone knows the plan in case of bad weather. Even going to the Old Toad last Leap Day, the weather was bad enough that just going out for dinner wasn't a pleasant drive. It was a lot of fun, though!

Holly, really glad to hear your hand is on the road to recovery. Hopefully the glove will work its magic and you'll be back to good real soon! Nice too that you were able to take advantage of the nice fall weather in MINIs of all flavors.

Ted, Jill, and I went to Rochester Thursday, Naples Friday, and back home yesterday. A lot of Motoring around in tedscar (she really likes it as long as we keep it cold enough that her black fur doesn't heat up in the sun) and the colors are pretty spectacular. Hope everyone gets a chance to enjoy them!

I would definately be interested in winter events / gatherings. I plan on driving tedscar right on through, as long as I can get in and out of my driveway. Good thoughts Cathleen about phone issues. I'm sure we can find a way to make something work, but I'm going to have to do some 'reprogramming' to be able to tolerate seeing tedscar with winter road grime all over it...

Finally, back on the original topic, we're definately lining up for MOT. Right now our plan is to take Ted--from the experienced, is this a 'good' idea? Is it a bad idea? If it's doable without putting a strain on her or us, any suggestions for pet-friendly accomodations? I've found several that look good online, but I've been fooled by that before (and of course, by then it's too late). Any sage advice would be welcome--thanks.

There have always been a number of dogs at MOT, and occaisonally cats (will have to find the story of Mr Toes on MINI2), so the accomodations have always been pet-friendly. I haven't looked too closely yet at the place suggested for next year in regards to pets, but I'm hoping someone's thought of this. (Not sure if a decision has been made yet)

The fine print says the official lodging site does not accept pets (see the MOT website, then click on "additional information" or some such thing and it links to a PDF file about the resort). If anyone has any tried and true ideas, please let me know--thanks.

I looked again at the MOT website, and it looks like Attitash doesn't allow pets. Bummer. Not that my cat has ever expressed an interest in attending, but there has usually been a pretty good dog presence. Beth & Louis (MINI2 screen name BethandLouis) have organized the pet goodie bags for the previous year's MOTs and may have some useful info on the pet situation.

The Red Roof Inn if you do the Yankee Candle version of MOT does allow dogs and there appears to be a bunch of hotels in Bartlett NH so hopefully one of them would allow dogs. It's sad that the official MOT hotel won't be doggy friendly - does look like a nice place.

Thanks for the dog lodging input.

As many of you know, 'tedscar' is named for our little mutt terrier who has Cushing's Disease. I can only hope she's around to join in for MOT. For now, I'm going to plan on it (and try to make reservations long in advance).

As for the trip to MOT, I look forward to a slew of us heading up together!

awww tedscar!!!! i didnt know that. I got all sad when i read that. I know that you are giving her so much attention and giving her the best life ever.

We all are going to do this. We should try to get everyone in this club there. it would be amazing. This is really far in advance and im sure WAY more then enough time for people to start taking off clearing their schedules. Im 100% sure that im going. ill take off soon for it even. catch up on all my work for that time.
