The duck? What do you have?

Ok we have been with the Mini crowd since May and still do not understand the true meaning of the ducks. Can anyone explain? Also I have seen others with sponge bob or smile faces. Not just one but enough to slow the car down by weight alone. That must be why smiley faces do not have hair blew off). Then there is the WOW! paint ideas. What do you have and why did you pick it.

We went with the Mellow Yellow because she liked it and she said so (her motorcycle is the same color). And the checkerboards (we like racing and it just looked cool). Rally lights allow us to still have fun at night. She added the smile face ball to the antenna today. Ordered the Mini Mo vinyl decal (mini = mini, mo= Maureen).

I currently have a Chili Red MC with white. Never named it. We picked it out from a WHOLE long list of cars that were available in 2005. The MINI of Manhattan advisor punched in all the items we wanted and voila there was a car available w/i the general area that they brought in for us. We ordered the sport package at the time b/c we wanted the sport seats and the run flats sounded like a good idea--the package also included front fog lights. I love the seats but hated the run flats. I had to get 2 new tires at 9000 miles! then 2 months later I had to replace another one. Each at over $200! This past October I switched to regular tires--no regrets.
I have ordered a 2009 MY/black. The two new things I can immediately see with the 2009 is that DSC is included (this was a part of the 2005 sport package) and it now has a 6 speed manual--NO need for me to go to a MCS. Loved the Moon/Sunroof so getting that option again which is included in the Premium package with Auto A/C and Leather multi-function steering wheel. Cold package a must--especially with the fine pleather interior! I decided on the NAV system and recently decided on Xenon lights--especially after reading NAM forum. I am awaiting more feedback on the bluetooth option with the NAV system to see if it is worth it to me. Currently the "bug" in the ear works fine for me.
...about the ducks..I don't know the whole story but I received a red "devil duck" from YellowMiniNY in the parking lot of Wegmans. I believe she was handing them out in memory of her friend. My red duck will be making the move from my red to MY mini!--sometime in November. biggrin.gif see ya!

The duck saga dates back to an early MINI adopter named Ed who in the early days of the MINI led an expedition to the large duck-shaped building on Long Island. It all grew from there. Unfortunately, Ed passed away quite suddenly and unexpectedly not long after MOT a few years back.

Cathleen (YellowMini) can provide many more details about Ed and the whole duck thing.

Ed gave ducks away at Mini runs, and we've tried to continue the tradition. Ed was a quintessial 'Mini ambassador' and got to know people in England, Ireland and Australia, besides the US, through MINI2.

More info about Ed here:

We have a 'memorial' duck traveling around, called Quack Quack Jack, and another memorial for Ruthie, called Quack Quack Jill. The traveling ducks have their own MINI2 thread now.

Ed & Ruthie were both kind, funny people who loved their family, friends and Minis, and got to know many people through their Mini ownership. We realized when Ed died that part of the message he left us with is that life is too short not to have fun.

As for me, I bought a 2003 Liquid Yellow/White Cooper. Ordered on 12/14/02, picked up on 2/11/03. Roof rack, on board computer. 78,000 miles later... it is still as much fun as it ever was. The only modification is the ducks.

I have 2 MINIs, a '06 MCS, and I have a czech roof flag (gray scaled to match my dark silver MINI) on my roof since I'm half Czech, and then I have a bunch of mods to make my Kittty *yes that's 3 ts since its my 3'rd MINI) I choose it with my sister since we share her. On my antenna i have a rubber ducky (provided by Yellow)
I also have a '97 Classic MINI Cooper....It was Love at first site, ended up naming her 'lil which is short for Little blue (original owners came up with Little Blue) but i havent done anything to her other than put a ducky on my dash...it has a majisties gaurd hat and is decked out in the uniform too...

I have a 2008 MC Chili Red with checkerboard motif (roof, mirrors, rearview mirror, dash) rooster red colorline, Cold weather package, cruise control, black driving lights. I waited for my MINI for a long time. I started emailing Greg at Towne in July of 2007 finally went to Towne on October 6, 2007 (my birthday) and test drove my first MINI. Greg was awesome he knew we had to wait and told us to come up any time to just visit and test drive. We (Greg, myself and my husband) spoke numerous times until finally the day came when we could order my MINI which was on March 15, 2008. The day that we picked up my ZIGGY was April 25, 2008 to say the least I didn't sleep the night before we picked him up and if I wasn't so exhausted I probably would have slept in my car that night. I know they say you bond with your MINI I bonded with mine before we even ordered him. I told Greg he has a life long customer with us because I will always have a MINI.
